How hard is the water where you live?

Water “hardness” is just a measure of the dissolved minerals in your water. The higher it climbs, the more scale, spots, and wear it leaves behind. Here’s where the towns we serve actually land, and what those numbers mean for your home.

Water hardness in nearby cities

Typical readings for each town. Your home’s exact number depends on your street and your plumbing, which is what a free water test tells us.

Readings are typical ranges for each area, not a guarantee for your address. For soft water, you want to land near the green end of the scale, which is why most Valley homes benefit from a softener. We confirm your exact number with a free test.

Here is what it means

Hardness is measured in “grains per gallon.” Lower is gentler on your home, higher is harder. Here’s the plain-language version of the scale:

Soft to slightly hard

The sweet spot. Soap rinses clean, no scale, appliances live a long life. Rare here without treatment.

Moderately hard

You start to notice spots and a little film. Manageable, but it adds up over the years.

Hard

Scale on faucets, crusty showerheads, more soap and detergent just to get things clean.

Very hard

The daily grind of spots, film, dry skin, and appliances wearing out early. Uncommon for the city average around here, but some individual wells run this high.

The costs of living with hard water

It rarely shows up as one big bill. It’s a slow drip of small costs and hassles that most Valley homeowners just get used to:

🔧

Appliances die young. Scale builds up inside your water heater, dishwasher, and washing machine, and shortens the life of all of them.

💸

Higher energy bills. A scaled-up water heater has to work harder to heat the same water, so you pay more every month.

🧼

More soap, more cleaning. Hard water fights your soap, so you use more of everything and still scrub spots off the dishes and glass.

🚿

Dry skin and hair. That tight, filmy feeling after a shower is the minerals and leftover soap the water can't rinse away.

🪠

Clogged plumbing over time. The same scale that crusts your faucets slowly narrows the pipes behind your walls.

A whole-home softener is what moves your water back toward the green end of that scale, so all of this simply stops adding up. Learn about water softeners →
